R.R. Donnelley Settles Labor Complaint

R.R. Donnelley has settled a dispute with an Illinois-based workers union over charges that the printer allegedly spied on employees and threatened them in retaliation for organizing with teamsters.

A Donnelley spokesperson did not immediately return a request for comment.

As part of the settlement, R.R. Donnelley is to post a notice to employees that details how the company “will not threaten our employees with unspecified reprisals because they choose to engage in union or other protected concerted activities,” according to a release issued by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

The complaint against Donnelley was issued by a regional office of the National Labor Relations Board on behalf of Donnelly employees who apparently were interested in organizing with the Teamsters’ Graphic Communications Conference group. The complaint alleged that managers at a Pontiac Illinois printing facility “spied on workers’ union activities, threatened to close the plant if employees joined the union and threatened to retaliate against an employee if he continued to support the union,” according to the statement.

“Our victory should give aid and comfort to the thousands of other R.R. Donnelley employees who are planning to become members of the GCC,” said George Tedeschi, Teamsters International vice president and GCC president.
