Chapel Hill Magazine and Durham Magazine
Dan Shannon is the founder and owner of the two-year-old bimonthly Chapel Hill Magazine and three-issue-old bimonthly Durham Magazine. Chapel Hill Magazine has a circulation of 15,000 and is mailed free to12,500 Chapel Hill residences; Durham Magazine has a circulation of 20,000 and is mailed free to 15,000 Durham residences. Both magazines are sold ($4 per issue) at more than 50 retail outlets, including Barnes & Noble, Whole Foods, Harris-Teeter, Borders and numerous independent retailers. Before launching his company, Dan had spent 25+ years in the publishing field, serving as a writer, editor and publisher. His work has appeared in Money, People, Consumer Electronics, The New York Times and Rolling Stone, among others. He was also publisher of University Business and eMarketing magazines at Professional Media Group. Dan moved with his family to Chapel Hill from Connecticut six years ago.

Mr. Schulz joined CurtCo Publishing from Irvine, California-based Freedom Communications, Inc., where he spent 13 years in a variety of senior management positions. Most recently, Mr. Schulz served as group publisher and vice president of Freedom Specialty Media, where he oversaw consumer magazines and niche media focused on the Southern California market. He spent the previous six years as chief operating officer and group publisher of OCR Magazines, a Freedom division he established and managed. Initially, Mr. Schulz was president of Freedom World Trade Media Group, where he held the title of publisher of World Trade magazine.
